MBT couplers require neither bar end preparation to form threads nor bar rotation to effect installation. The bars are supported within the coupler by two serrated saddles.
As a series of lockshear bolts are tightened to a predetermined torque, they are embedded into the bar. At the same time the saddles bite into both the bar and the shell of the coupler. Installation is complete when the heads of all of the bolts are sheared off. The lockshear bolts on sizes 10mm to 20mm can be tightened using a ratchet wrench. For larger sizes a nut runner is recommended. Impact tools must not be used. MBT couplers can be used to join imperial, plain round or deformed reinforcing bars.

Overview:
An MBT Coupler is a high-strength mechanical connector used in reinforced concrete construction to join reinforcing steel bars (rebar) end-to-end or in lap-free splices. Designed for speed, reliability, and structural integrity, MBT Couplers eliminate the need for traditional rebar overlapping, reducing material waste and labor costs while enhancing load transfer between bars.
Coupler Body:
Carbon Steel (Grade 8.8 or 10.9): High-tensile carbon steel provides exceptional strength and durability, ensuring reliable load transfer between rebars.
Stainless Steel (Grade 304/316): Used in corrosive environments (e.g., marine, chemical plants) for superior rust resistance.
Galvanized Steel: Zinc-coated for added corrosion protection in standard construction applications.
Threads:
Case-Hardened Steel: Precision-cut threads are hardened to resist wear and deformation during installation.
Alloy Steel (Cr-Mo): Chromium-molybdenum alloy enhances thread strength and fatigue resistance under dynamic loads.
Sealing Components (Optional):
EPDM/Neoprene Gaskets: Watertight seals prevent moisture ingress in joints exposed to water or humidity.
Nylon Inserts: Protect threads during transport and handling.
Coatings/Treatments:
Hot-Dip Galvanizing: For extended corrosion resistance.
Epoxy Coating: Used in aggressive chemical environments.
Zinc-Aluminum Coating: Combines galvanic and barrier protection.
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio:
Carbon/alloy steel ensures tensile strength up to 1,000 MPa, matching or exceeding rebar performance.
Corrosion Resistance:
Stainless steel or galvanized coatings extend lifespan in harsh environments.
Durability:
Resists deformation, vibration, and seismic forces due to robust material engineering.
Compatibility:
Matches common rebar grades (e.g., ASTM A615, BS 4449, IS 1786).
Ease of Installation:
Pre-threaded couplers with standardized threads simplify on-site assembly.
High-Rise Buildings: Lap-free column/wall reinforcement.
Bridges & Tunnels: Corrosion-resistant splices in critical joints.
Industrial Floors: Rapid installation for large-scale slabs.
Seismic Zones: Reliable load transfer in earthquake-resistant structures.
Meets ISO 15835, ASTM A1034, and BS 8110 for mechanical splices.
Certified for use in LEED projects due to reduced material waste.
